Trackers in the Driver App

Register hardware tracker devices to cargo from your phone.

The Trackers tab in the driver app is for registering hardware tracker devices onto cargo as you handle it — scan or manually enter the device’s identifier, and chrt links it to the order so the device’s live telemetry shows up on the order map and timeline.

This is the only tracker surface inside the driver app. Viewing live tracker telemetry, downloading data, and managing tracker integrations happens in the chrt web app — see Trackers for that side.

Before you start

  • You have the physical tracker in hand (a Tive device, or any other supported hardware tracker).
  • You know which task group / cargo line the tracker belongs to. Dispatch may pre-link the tracker on the order side; if not, the link happens when you register.
  • Camera permission is granted for scan-based registration. If not, you can fall back to manual entry — see Settings to re-grant.

1. Open the Trackers tab

Tap Trackers in the bottom tab bar. You’ll see three entry modes:

  • Single — scan one device at a time. Each scan closes the scanner and adds the device to the register list.
  • Batch — scan multiple devices in a row without closing the scanner. Good when you’re commissioning a pallet of trackers.
  • Manual — type the device’s MAC address or identifier. Use this when the device’s barcode is damaged or unreadable.

2. Scan or enter the device

  1. Tap Scan Tracker (Single) or Start Batch Scan (Batch).
  2. Point the camera at the barcode / QR on the device.
  3. In Single mode, the scanner closes after each successful scan and adds the device to the list. In Batch mode, the scanner stays open until you exit — keep scanning each device in turn.
  4. The scanned identifier appears on a row in the Trackers to Register list.
  1. Pick Manual as the entry mode.
  2. Type the device’s MAC address (Tive devices print this on the label).
  3. Tap the + button to add it to the list.

You can mix scan and manual entries in the same registration batch.

3. Review and register

The Trackers to Register list lets you remove or edit any row before committing. Once it looks right, tap Register Trackers.

  • A single device shows Register Tracker.
  • Multiple devices show Register N Trackers.

After registration:

  • Each device is linked into chrt and starts reporting under your org.
  • If dispatch had pre-linked the device to specific cargo, the link activates. If not, dispatch can attach it to cargo from the order page in the web app.

Android: offline registration

Tracker registration on Android queues when you’re offline. The device rows you scan or enter are saved locally; once you reconnect, the queue replays each registration call to chrt.

iOS tracker registration is online-first today. If iOS registration fails on a weak signal, retry once you’re back on a strong network.

What you can’t do in the app

The driver app’s Trackers tab is registration-only. From the app, you cannot:

  • View the live position of a registered tracker (do that on the order page in the web app).
  • Download historical telemetry (web app).
  • Change the cargo a tracker is linked to (web app — or dispatch can do it).
  • Manage tracker integrations like Tive shipment sync (web app).

For all of those, open the order in the web app — see Trackers on orders.

How to know it worked

  • After Register Trackers, the list clears and a toast confirms how many devices were registered.
  • The device appears in the org’s tracker list at chrt.com/tracking/devices.
  • If the tracker was linked to cargo at registration time, telemetry appears on the order map within a few minutes.

If something looks different

  • Scanner won’t open. Camera permission was denied. Re-grant from Settings.
  • Manual MAC address is rejected. Check format — Tive devices follow a standard MAC pattern. If the device’s label is damaged, contact your dispatcher or the device manufacturer.
  • Device shows registered but no telemetry on the map. The device may still be warming up (Tive devices can take a few minutes to report their first sample). If it persists, confirm the cargo link in the web app.
  • Registration failed on retry. Some MAC addresses can be already registered to a different org. Contact hi@chrt.com.
