Flights and WebCargo
chrt has three flight tools for forwarders: a flight search that powers
order flight segments, a WebCargo by Freightos embed for booking cargo
space, and a standalone flight tracker at /flights and /flight/<ident>.
This page walks each of them and shows where they fit on an order.
1. Search flights for an order segment
Inside a draft order’s Flights tab, each flight segment has a search form that hits FlightAware for live schedules.
- Open your draft at chrt.com/orders/drafts and switch to the Flights tab.
- On the flight segment’s card, pick the origin and destination airports.
- Choose a window from Show flights: — Next 6 hr, Next 12 hr, Next 24 hr, or Select Date for a specific date.
- Optionally toggle Include connections to see routings with a stop.
- Click Search Flights.
Pick the flight you want from the results. Selecting writes flight number, airline, origin/destination airports, scheduled departure, and scheduled arrival onto the segment.
Click Save Flight {n} (or Save flights & create tasks for an onboard-courier segment). chrt creates the milestone tasks (7 for a flight segment; per-leg board/depart/arrive/deboard for an OBC segment) and locks the flight info onto the order.
Flight search is for live schedules. If a flight isn’t visible, it may not be in the FlightAware schedule yet (airlines sometimes load schedules hours, not days, in advance) or the cutoff has already passed.
2. Book with WebCargo
WebCargo by Freightos is embedded inside chrt’s flight tooling for live rate comparison and air-waybill booking. The embed runs against your configured WebCargo account; bookings made through it are linked back to the chrt order via an external booking reference.
- On a flight segment in the Flights tab, set origin and destination airports.
- Click Book Cargo. chrt opens an authenticated WebCargo session in an iframe pre-filled with the origin, destination, departure date, and your order’s cargo (pieces, dimensions, weight, stackable/turnable).
- Compare rates across airlines, pick the offering you want, and walk through booking inside WebCargo.
- WebCargo issues an air waybill; chrt keeps the booking linked to the order via the external booking reference.
Use Refresh if the session expires (you’ll see “Session Expired — Your WebCargo session has expired. Please refresh to continue.”) and Open in New Tab to take the booking into a separate window.
WebCargo bookings are real. Don’t click through to a confirmed booking while testing — the airline will charge for the space. Use the rate matrix to compare, then book only when the shipment is real.
3. Track a flight from /flights
The standalone flight tools at chrt.com/flights
and /flight/<ident> are useful for ad-hoc visibility — checking a flight
that isn’t on a chrt order yet, or pulling up a live tracker without
opening the order.
Flight search
Open chrt.com/flights for a search by origin, destination, and time window. This is the same search component as on the Flights tab inside a draft, but here it’s not tied to a draft order — it’s for reference and lookups.
Track by flight number
To go straight to a flight by its identifier (e.g. AS368), open
chrt.com/flight/{ident}. The tracker
shows:
- Flight detail (airline, aircraft type, route, scheduled and actual times).
- A live Mapbox map with the flight path and the aircraft’s current position.
- Gate, terminal, and any status updates from FlightAware.
- A refresh control with Updated X m ago; the tracker auto-refreshes every 60 seconds.
You can also reach the tracker from the search bar at the top of the page — type a flight number into the Track input and press the Track button.
How flights show up on the order page
Once an order with a flight segment is in motion, the Flights tab on
the order page (/orders/<order-ref>?tab=flights) shows a flight tracker
card for each segment with the same live data — schedule, map, status,
and aircraft position. Stops on the flight segment (tender, recover) also
chain into the Details timeline as task events.
If something looks different
- No results for an origin/destination pair you know flies. Widen the time window or toggle Include connections on. Some carriers don’t publish far in advance.
- WebCargo embed shows “Session Expired” on first open. Click Refresh to mint a fresh tokenized session.
- WebCargo embed won’t load. Make sure your org has WebCargo credentials configured. Contact hi@chrt.com to check or set up the integration.
- Flight tracker shows no map. The aircraft hasn’t departed yet or position data hasn’t been published. The schedule fields still populate from FlightAware’s flight detail.
- Contact hi@chrt.com for FlightAware or WebCargo integration issues.
